With a spherical ball, you will need to increase the tension control as you move the load away from the center. This is because gravity has a greater effect on gear when not perfectly level. The aspherical ball in the Arca-Swiss B1 compensates for this, allowing the ball head to support very heavy loads. You will notice this difference when you move the head from vertical to the side as the head will produce increasing friction or resistance to movement as you move the clamp off center.
